We were working closely with Citizens for Safe Drinking Water on this issue. We
co- sponsored The California Fluoride Product Quality Control Act - AB 1565.
The California Fluoride Product Quality Control Act - AB 1565 On Friday, February 23, 2001, Assembly Member Dennis Mountjoy (R- Monrovia), became primary author.
This bill would require no fluorine-containing substance that could be classified as a pesticide or hazardous or toxic waste by state or federal agencies be added to the public water supply.
It is sponsored by Citizens for Safe Drinking Water and CA Citizens for Health Freedom. It would assure that the actually fluoride substance added to public drinking water would be appropriately tested, not only for safety, but also for the purpose it is added.
This bill will be similar to Fluoridation Product Quality Control Act -AB 1729. For complete text and updates go to California Bills
and put in "Assembly" and "1565".
To get an understanding of some our concerns the following information was taken from an article by George Glasser.*
Hydrofluosilicic acid is the most corrosive chemical agent known to man.
It is derived from toxic gases produced in the manufacture of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers.
It contains lead, mercury, arsenic, and high concentrations of radionucleides.
It is also the chemical agent most used for water fluoridation in the United States.
Current regulations only have to determine the amount of fluorine contained in the water and not the accompanying contaminants.
Although recommendations and standards have been established, the entire system relies on voluntary cooperation and compliance between the manufacturer/vendor and the purchaser to comply with the American Water Works Association's standards for fluosilicic acid.
Unless the purchaser has the facilities to perform the recommended tests, there is no way of verifying the quality and safety of the fluosilicic acid.
Manufacturers of fluosilicic acid are not obligated to monitor or inform the purchaser of NORM contaminant levels in the fluosilicic acid unless expressly requested by the purchaser.
The EPA requires the states to regularly analyze treated water for potability. However, even if testing is performed, it has already been used by the consumer.
Food Grade fluoride is not used in the water fluoridation process because the cost factors would be prohibitive.
Other research shows:
Studies found that children in communities using silicofluoride compounds had significantly higher levels of lead in their blood compared with their counterparts in communities that used sodium fluoride or no fluoridation at all. Lead poisoning has been linked with higher rates of learning disabilities, hyperactivity, substance abuse and crime.
Fluoride is a cumulative highly toxic drug that has never been approved by the FDA to add to drinking water or for dental use.
Segments of the population are unusually susceptible to the harmful effects of fluoride and are forced to abandon our public water supply.
A must read for background research about fluoridated water.
